Did you take picture last night? Please share them with us at flickr.com/groups/vegandrinks.

Whoa! You'd think we were giving away the recipe to Vegan Treats' Peanut Butter Bomb by the amount of folks who turned out for last night's Vegan Drinks. There were a bunch of you there (familiar and unfamiliar faces!), as well as a winning softball team. (Go, Team Crush Management!)

You're reading this because you want to know who made shout outs last night, right? Well let's get to it, in easy to read list format:

Vegan Drinks XXVIII is Thursday, August 26th!

Vegan Drinks

Drinks for vegans!

Don't miss the last Vegan Drinks of the super humid months! Show up at 7pm on Thursday, August 26th, order a drink (or two or three) and meet some new friends!

As always Vegan Drinks NYC takes place at Angels & Kings Bar in the East Village. The drink specials are CHEAP: $2 off everything until 8pm and then it's $1 off draft beers and well drinks from 8pm to 9pm. Folks who don't drink alcohol are also quite welcome, but you do have to be 21 to get in.

We'll turn down the music around 8:15pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature.

Do you fancy yourself a decent photographer? Or, do you, at least, own a very nice camera capable of taking very good photos? If so, bring it with you on Thursday. Shoot a bunch of pictures. Upload them to our Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/vegandrinks.

Check out our map of restaurants near Angels & Kings where you can grab a bite after the event. And if you haven't already, link up with Vegan Drinks on Facebook and MySpace.

Vegan Drinks is held from 7pm to 9pm at Angels & Kings, 500 East 11th Street (btw Ave A & Ave B), New York, NY 10009.

Do you have pictures from the last Vegan Drinks? If so, please share them with us because our cameras are terrible. Share here, please: flickr.com/groups/vegandrinks

The 27th Vegan Drinks was held on Thursday, July 29th, and although I wasn't in attendance (I was taking the NJ bar exam instead), you all still managed to have an amazing time. (Kudos to Patrick of the Humane Society of the United States for acting as the substitute MC for the evening!)

Craig and Michelle from Terri brought cupcakes,
Thanksgiving, as well as bacon and cheese sandwiches, AND quesadillas. Thank you so much, Team Terri! (Friends, if you have yet to visit Terri, write yourself a note to go there tomorrow. Get a Butterfinger milkshake. It will make you forget Day 1 of the NY bar exam in record time. Promise.)

Folks who lined up to make "Shout Outs" included: Matt of Mercy For Animals (MFA), who encouraged the crowd to volunteer with MFA to help promote veganism in one of its upcoming leafleting events; Stevie from Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary (WFAS) reminded everyone to volunteer (year-round!) and attend WFAS's upcoming events while the farm is open for tours (until October!); Ethan of Sea Shepherd talked about the new NYC chapter and its Monday, August 9th benefit to rescue animals affected by the Gulf oil spill, S'more Protection for the Oceans (buy your tickets before it sells out!); political prisoner support collective NYC Anarchist Black Cross invited everyone to Running Down the Walls 2010, a 5K run/walk/jog on August 7th; and, Brooke from Mama Earth Rocks! Earth Friendly Catering plugged her catering and personal chef services.

Vegan Drinks is Thursday July 29

July 27, 2010 10:48am
Actually, if you get this drunk we might get kind of upset with you.

Actually, if you get this drunk we might get kind of upset with you.

There is a roof, nice big windows, and air conditioning at Angels & Kings in the East Village where we'll be holding Vegan Drinks this Thursday, just like every last Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm.

But most importantly, it's a big pleasant happy hour with your fellow vegans! Come after work, and get some cheap drinks ($2 off everything until 8pm, then $1 off draft beers and well drinks from 8pm to 9pm). Folks who don't drink alcohol are also quite welcome, but you do have to be 21 to get in.

If you have a vegan/animal-related cause/group/event to promote, we'll turn down the music around 8:15pm and encourage people to promote themselves for 30 seconds. Come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature.

We turned TWO on May 27th! Thanks for supporting Vegan Drinks for the past two years! And, thanks to those of you who left home without an umbrella but still made it to the bar!

A group of all-star New Yorkers showed up to make "Shout Outs"! Lila represented Sunday, May 30th's amazing Brake of Noon: A Radical Bike Tour & Vegan Picnic Brunch Benefit, which kicks off at noon in Greenpoint. Check out the Cajun-influenced menu on the event's Facebook page. Ethan announced the formation of a Sea Shepherd chapter in NYC and its first meeting on Thursday, June 3rd at Hunter College. Nicole of PETA's Partnership Marketing Program explained that her organization is looking to partner with like-minded organizations and businesses. Contact Nicole if you want more information! Everything We Wanted to Know About the NYC Veggie Prom And Weren't Afraid to Ask

May 13, 2010 12:44pm

The NYC Veggie Prom 2010 is tomorrow night, Friday May 14th at Littlefield in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Doors at 8pm. The event is 21+. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Team SuperVegan put together some questions for event organizers Jessica Mahady, DJ Lil Ray (of Vegan Drinks fame), and Robyn Lazara.

SuperVegan: Do people have to dress up fancy?

DJ Lil Ray: It's highly encouraged, but certainly not required. Theme parties are more fun when everyone plays along, but we're not haters.

Jessica Mahady: People are wearing all kinds of things ... '80s prom attire, '60s vintage ...

SuperVegan: What kind of music will you be playing?

DJLR: We've gotten requests for '80s and '90s dance music. DJ iLan and I both love all kinds of music, so we'll probably touch on party classics from a number of eras. We'll have a little Top 40, probably some Motown, Disco, and Funk ... music that makes everyone feel good!

SuperVegan: Will there be a prom king and queen?

DJLR: Heck yeah!

JM: Nominations for prom court closed on Wednesday. All of the nominees will wear a special "Veggie Prom Court" ribbon so everyone knows who they are. Our emcee, Michael Parrish DuDell of Ecorazzi and VegDaily, will introduce the court about halfway through the party.  Voting will then open, and the court will be crowned before midnight!

SuperVegan: Tell us about the vegan desserts that will be available.

Vegan Drinks XXIV: You raised over $1,100 for Darwin Animal Doctors!!!

April 30, 2010 1:40pm
Darwin Animal Doctors

Thank you, New York City! You raised over $1,100 for Darwin Animal Doctors at the April 29th Vegan Drinks by buying amazingly satisfying savory eats and decidedly decadent sweet treats. Extra love to our cadre of chefs, including Shannon and Laura of Sea Shepherd, Val, Susan, Sarah of Rescue Chocolate and Danny of The V-Spot.

Super great folks made "Shout Outs" to the crowd to promote their latest projects! Tod thanked the crowd on behalf of his organization, Darwin Animal Doctors. Jessica invited everyone to Brooklyn on Friday, May 14th for Veggie Conquest's Veggie Prom, which will feature free desserts! Stevie made the call for more Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary volunteers -- step up, NYC! Amanda from PETA announced that Joan Jett will be passing out the organization's new vegan starter kits on the south side of Union Square on Tuesday, May 4th at 12:00pm. David of Farm Sanctuary and Eileen of Vegan Outreach each gave an update on their organization's latest efforts. And, Lila announced the upcoming May 30th Bicycle Tour Vegan Picnic Extravaganza, which will include a bicycle tour of Brooklyn and a picnic in Prospect Park -- details will be announced soon.

Big thanks to Jesse the Bartender, DJ Lil Ray and The Regal Vegan for providing samples of its walnut and lentil pâté, Faux Gras.

Support Galapagos Animals this Thursday, April 29 at Vegan Drinks!

April 28, 2010 10:13am

This Thursday, at Vegan Drinks, we are going to have a special bake sale to benefit Darwin Animal Doctors (formerly named Amigo Fiel before our US incorporation this month), my project to start the first animal hospital in the Galapagos. This is part of World Vegan Bake Sale Week, and the bake sale will take place at Angels and Kings bar from 7pm to 9pm.

Our head baker for the event is the amazing Laura Dakin, the vegan chef of Sea Shepherd and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis. There will be everything at this bake sale from cookies to cakes to vegan quiches to vegan pigs in blankets.

Right now, the animals of the Galapagos suffer from car accidents, invasive germs, and other problems wrought from urbanization. We've started paying a full-time vet to save animals in the Galapagos every day, and he's handling everything from invasive diseases to animal surgery. But he needs veterinary equipment and additional staff, so every penny made at the bake sale will go directly to helping the animals of Galapagos.

Come and stuff yourself silly with treats in order to help out a lot of animals!

The very lovely DJ Lil Ray will be there to keep the beat! And, we'll have a few things to giveaway, so bring your luck with you.

The drink specials are CHEAP ($3 domestics, $4 imports and $1 off well drinks)! And, the crowd is full of good folks.

We'll turn down the music around 8:15pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature.
