An Annual Tradition: Farm Sanctuary’s Veggie Voices

The Veggie Voices perform in Grand Central Station

The Veggie Voices perform in Grand Central Station

Every year around the holidays, Farm Sanctuary‘s Carol Moon gathers a group of singers to perform Christmas Carols with vegan lyrics such as “Soy to the world, the tofu’s come.”

This year they sung at Grand Central Station and Times Square, educating amused holiday shoppers and travelers with familiar melodies and “new and improved” lyrics like “Dead meat smells, dead meat smells, go vegan all the way! Oh, how kind it is to have a vegan holiday.”

Carol wrote the lyrics herself over the last 10 years and just started performing the songs last season. She describes the performances as a light–hearted way to spread the vegan message.

She’s always looking for singers of all voice parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) who can sight-read well. Rehearsals next year will start in October. If you’re interested in joining, you can contact her at (212) 567-4556 or at kids@farmsanctuary.org. If you’d rather not sing but would still like to help, Carol always needs help handing out literature during the performance.
