Bamboo the Elephant in need of Sanctuary

Bamboo pacing in her one acre

Bamboo pacing in her one acre “home”

Though I’m an avid reader of the blog Boing Boing, in my experience they’ve been less than sensitive to animal rights issues. Much to my surprise yesterday I read a post about the controversy surrounding the life of the Asian elephant Bamboo.

Bamboo has lived at Woodland park zoo since her arrival in 1968 until she recently started exhibiting neurotic behavior at which point she was sent packing to Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma.

Offering some salvation to Bamboo is the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee that is willing to pay her way to a spacious loving new home – if only she were allowed. A rally was held Friday in Seattle in support of Bamboo by the Northwest Animal Rights Network. Check out the website for info on how you can help and more of Bamboo’s story.
