  1. Designer Nicora Johns‘ cruelty-free, eco-friendly, made in the U.S.A. shoe line is almost 60% funded on Kickstarter and there are only 5 days left for them to reach their goal by August 18th, and for you to get incredibly cute vegan shoes. I mean, just look at some of these designs:

I would wear all of those shoes, especially those lace-up boots! Nicora Johns offers women’s and men’s sizes, depending on the design, and pledges start at $5. All pledges come with a reward, but shoe rewards start at the $85 pledge level. The company aims to ” … bring you quality handmade shoes while bringing jobs back to the United States through environmentally-sound production and affordable pricing.” Sounds like a noble cause, and we can’t argue with the fact that all of their designs are made without animals.

So if you’re in the market for some cute fall flats or boots, or you just want to help out an awesome company, contribute to their Kickstarter page and get yourself a little something.

  2. summerpopupVegan fashion line VauteCouture‘s summer sample sale starts today! Lasting through June 15th, the appointment-only Pop-Up Shop in Brooklyn will offer 25% off everything, including new seasonal items, as well as deep discounts on winter clothing. VauteCouture gained national attention earlier this year when they became the first all-vegan fashion line to present at New York Fashion Week. They offer a variety of fashion-forward, animal-free pieces in sizes 0 through 18 at fairly reasonable (~$180 for a dress) prices.

To make an appointment, e-mail Kristina at KristinaVaute at with your ideal day and hour, and they will email you back with your half hour time slot (you can bring up to 4 friends with you).

Don’t live near Brooklyn and still want cheap post-season winter coats? VauteCouture will be hosting an online coat sample sale on Tuesday, June 11th from 1pm lasting until Thursday, June 13th at 1pm. Or, at their Brooklyn store on June 16th from 1pm – 8pm.

You can find more information on both the summer sample sale and winter coat sale here. Happy shopping!

  4. Vegan Shop Up is totally kicking ass with the flyers these days.

Vegan Shop Up is totally kicking ass with the flyers these days.

When it rains, it pours and all that: This Sunday, June 10, we have not only the latest edition of the Vegan Shop Up, but LivLuna and Compassion Couture are hosting Save the World in Style NYC Eco Fashion Sample Sale.

Compassion Couture and LivLuna only sell products from environmentally and socially responsible brands: all cruelty-free, eco-friendly materials, fair-trade, and sweatshop-free. Some of the brands they’ll be selling at cost at the sample sale in Soho include omgirl, ecoSkin, Beyond Yoga, Threads 4 Thought, Toggery, ALO, Popomomo, Prairie Underground, stacia, skunkfunk, Beyond Skin, Dialog, Hearts of Darkness by Cri de Coeur, Kailia, Matt & Nat, Neuaura, Novacas, olsenHaus, Reveal and Susan Nichole. (Probably not much for us menfolk, sadly, but we’re used to that.) The sale will be at 580 Broadway, 2nd Fl (in the Virayoga Street Studio) from 11am to 3pm.

Over at NYC’s excellent (and now air-conditioned!) vegan bar, PineBox Rockshop, at 12 Grattan Street in Bushwick, the Vegan Shop Up promises at least 30 vendors (some food, many not) from noon to 6pm.

Heck, why not go shop at MooShoes and Vaute Couture, too, on Sunday, and complete a most excellently vegan one-day evisceration of your bank account.

Do we have other totally vegan (non-food) brick-and-mortar shops in NYC?
