  1. Join us THIS Thursday, December 27, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm for Vegan Drinks NYC! Find us at Fontana’s Bar, located at 105 Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side. SoulKofa will be serving stuffed “duck,” General Tso’s Tofu, “salmon” smothered with mushrooms, vegan lasagna, South African smoked spinach, and three kinds of cake (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry short cake)! Seriously, wait until next year to think about joining that gym!

This month, we’ll be benefiting the Empty Cages Collective (ECC), a New York-based animal and environmental advocacy organization. ECC aims to cultivate a culture where animals are recognized as fellow sentient beings worthy of respectful and compassionate treatment. Through advocacy, education, hands-on rescue and assistance, the ECC envisions a world free of animal exploitation, abuse, and ecologically destructive behavior. Stuff some dollars in their donation jar and stock up on their raffle tickets so you can walk away with the following great prizes:

    • ‘sNice gift certificate

Have you read the new and improved Vegan Drinks FAQ? Please read it, even if you’re a regular at our event. (Really, please read it. All of it.)

We’ll turn down the music around 8:30pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature.

If you’re not already following our every move, connect with Vegan Drinks on Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@vegandrinks), and join our e-mail list.

Vegan Drinks NYC is usually held the last Thursday of the month from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Do you represent an animal rights group you think should be the beneficiary of an upcoming Vegan Drinks NYC? Visit vegandrinks.org/beneficiaries to learn more about how to make that happen.

  2. Thank YOU for hanging out and supporting Friends of Animals at Vegan Drinks NYC on November 29th. Hugs to everyone at Fontana’s Bar for hosting and to Heirloom Vegan Eatery for keeping us satiated!

And, extra special thanks to those organizations and individuals who made Shout Outs:

This month, we’ll be benefiting the not-for-profit Friends of Animals, who work to cultivate a respectful view of nonhuman animals, free-living and domestic. Their goal is to free animals from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation around the world. Funds raised at Vegan Drinks will directly enable them to continue their life-saving work and benefit their low-cost spay-neuter program in the NY Metropolitan area by helping to provide subsidies for rescue groups, shelters and people on low-incomes to spay or neuter their cats and dogs at one of the veterinarians in their network. 4. Thanks everyone for making our election party last night an amazing time!

Especial thanks to Daniel and Danielle from Chickpea & Olive, Dan and Christopher of Dun-Well Doughnuts, DJ Megan Rascal, DJ Grand Format, the truly wonderful Fontana’s staff, and the patriotic folks who stuck around til 2am when the President finally gave his speech.

  5. With all the devestation and cuddling caused by Hurrican Sandy, New Yorkers are living in the present even more than usual right now. But. Mark your calendars for the night of Election Day, Tuesday, November 6.

We’re throwing a giant vegan election night party at Fontana’s on the Lower East Side (the same place we do Vegan Drinks) with delicious, organic, local, savory food from Chickpea & Olive and delectable, organic, artisinal doughnuts from Dun-Well Doughnuts.

You don’t want to be sitting home alone on Election Night. We hope to celebrate tongether. We may have to mourn together. Either way, we should be together. With lots of delicious food, a full bar, great music, and a giant wall-sized projection screen to watch the returns come in. We did this four years ago at the now-closed Red Bamboo Brooklyn and it was a heck of a great night. Let’s do it again, Vegan NYC!

While we’ll turn on the TV sound when needed, we’ll otherwise be listening great music all night from DJ Grand Format, DJ Jason Das (that’s me! I don’t DJ as much as I used to, but I still got the records), and update: DJ Megan Rascal!

The location is Fontana’s Bar, 105 Eldridge Street (between Grand St. & Broome St.), New York, NY 10002. Here’s a map.

RSVP on Facebook, if you like that kind of thing.

All are welcome. Vegans and non-vegans, heavy drinkers and teetotalers … even Romney voters, I guess, though I’m not sure where you’d find one of those around here. You don’t have to be eligible to vote to attend, but you do have to be 21 to get in the bar.

    See y’all there.
