Yay! Today is Cinco de Mayo, the holiday that commemorates the victory of the Mexican army against the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by trying out these awesome traditional Mexican recipes from PETA’s VegCooking.com. I’m totally excited about the tres leches recipe. I thought I’d never have that again!
I’m most looking forward to celebrating Cinco de Mayo by drinking lots of sangria. Cosmic Cantina is a good local NYC place to go for sangria and vegan Mexican food (okay, it’s Tex-Mex, but whatever). Happy hour is from 4-8pm and a pitcher of Sangria costs $13. Laura recommends the white sangria. Tonight Laura and I will be watering at Pukk. Though it’s a Thai restaurant, they have awesome white sangria and a pleasant atmosphere. Folks seeking really cheap sangria should look no futher than Dojo’s West or Dojo’s East. While the quality isn’t that great (there are no actual fruits besides maraschino cherries), you can’t beat the all day price of $12.50 per pitcher.
