In case you were worried that animal research was only for really important medical stuff, scientists have developed a cream that “switches on the tanning machinery in skin cells” of mice.

If this same process is found to work in humans, it will supposedly help fair-skinned people avoid skin cancer. But I have no doubt that the tanning salon set is eager to take full advantage.
