Meerkat meets egg
Well, I can’t top Laura’s vegan bunnies, but I can show a cute picture of a meerkat at London Zoo playing with an Easter egg, and tell you that Easter is named after Eostre. It turns out that the Christian Easter’s celebration of a guy rising from the dead is superimposed on festivities that celebrate a lunar goddess, associated both with eggs (think estrogen) and with, you guessed it, bunnies.
How do I know all this? Because I checked out the rabbit lovers’ companion par excellence, Stories Rabbits Tell, published by Lantern Books. And thus ends my shameless plug for Easter.
