Mayor Bloomberg opposes pets on subway, even in emergencies

The draft came at the request of the city Office of Emergency Management, "which is concerned that without the ability to transport these animals, people may ignore evacuation orders," as seen in the example of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Unfortunately, Mayor Bloomberg shot down this potentially life-saving proposal early this morning. The New York Sun reports, "Mr. Bloomberg declared there would be no pets—with the exception of small dogs and cats—on subways and buses if city residents need to make an emergency evacuation."
