New York Times Profiles Isa and Her "Insanely Fetching" Cupcakes

Melty ganache meltys my heart.
To my thinking, this makes up for a lot of what the Times's Thursday Styles overpriced, overwritten fashion article lacked - I guess that's because Isa and Terry have personality enough to frost dozens of cupcakes, though you won't be able to carry any of them around in a $700 handbag. Or I guess you could, but really you should just get one of these.
Update: Um, holy shit. Isa's Amazon.com sales rankings are sky-rocketing. Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World is at #135 and Vegan with a Vengeance is #85 (84, 83, 82...).

There are some in the vegan community who might think that the Whole Earth Bakery is "gross" because they make healthier, whole-grain desserts with no refined sugar, in comparison to the kinds of desserts that Vegan Treats or Isa makes which might include partially hydrogenated oils, refined grains, sugar, etc.
I think having both options is fantastic. A full spectrum of vegan restaurants, from FoodSwings to Caravan of Dreams means that there are options--from vegan 'junk food' to super-healthy and pure/raw food, and everything in between. After all, if we're asking non-vegetarians to be open-minded enough to try meatless cuisine, shouldn't we follow our own advice about the kinds of veg cuisine we embrace, or at least tolerate?

And I have to say, we shouldn't let mainstream non-veg tastes dictate our preferences. When I first went vegan, I wanted vegan versions of the salty/greasy crap I'd grown up on, but now I've really come to like a lot of the wholesome, healthy food that I used to dismiss as "rabbit food." People are different and tastes change.
