Jake Ill-and-all

Hunky Jake Gyllenhaal is supporting very un-hunky behavior. According to a recent Cindy Adams' column, Jake says in the February 2007 issue of GQ, "I actually love to go to a farm and get fresh milk or watch a pig get slaughtered." His spokesperson did not deny that's what he said.

Oh, no, Jake. You've gone and done it now. The milk is one thing, but the pig? Why? As a working actor, don't you personally know people that abstain from harming animals? It just struck me as odd for you to be so pro-bacon. Is that sensitive guy routine only an act too? Surely, you realize legions of adoring fans will be displeased by such blatant boasting about animal slaughter? Yes, you're entitled to your opinions (however misguided they may be) but it's not good ethics or good press for you. Babe would certainly disapprove!

Adams notes a comment in a reaction letter from Roslyn Krause: "I had previously admired Jake Gyllenhaal, but after reading the interview with him ... I will never spend money for another one of his films." I doubt she's alone on that assertion.

  Oh man, that SUCKS. I actually liked him. I went to his homepage and it has this whole section of "causes" that he cares about. How incredibly touching. He's against war but he enjoys watching pigs die? What a freak.

  How ironic is it that on the same day I read this post, TreeHugger posts Jake as a TreeHugger Star, lauding him for his eco-friendly ways? How disappointing.
  
  His fans have no right to be displeased by this unless they are vegan/vegetarian. Anyone who eats pigs and is upset by his remark is inevitably a hypocrite. Unless they're just upset that he said it out loud...

  I respectfully disagree (in part) with releaseme because it takes a special kind of . . . person to enjoy the sight of a sentient being getting slaughtered. That's not the same thing as being okay with eating meat (otherwise there'd be way more vegans). Let's face it--we've got a huge disconnect between the process and the product, but to know what the process is and then to enjoy observing it is over-the-top creepy and disturbing. Boycott Jake!

  That is disturbing. Vegan, vegetarian, or not...watching, and ENJOYING an animal being slaughtered is disturbing. You really have to be a sick individual to watch and like that. What a freak.
