Finally: Vegan Treats Doughnuts in New York City!

July 21, 2007 10:36am

Some people want to die in their sleep. Some people chose to kick it while sitting on the toilet with a fistful of ludes and a tallboy. I would "like" to die at Atlas Cafe with both my mouth and arteries over-full of Vegan Treats treats. On a Tuesday. In the meantime, my very own personal cake v. cheesecake, chocolate v. vanilla battle has become even more complicated with the addition of doughnuts to the selection. Rainbow sprinkled, glazed, oreo creme (personal fav), Boston creme, coconut creme-- holy mother of Danielle Konya these are effing delicious! Big ups to Oualid and Marwan for their impeccable ordering insights. But be forewarned, quantities are limited and don't last till Wednesday so if you get to Atlas after me, (read: Tuesday, 7:01pm) there might not be any left cause these babies keep and I buy for now and for later! Trust me, come Monday you'll be dying for one.

Update, October 11, 2007: Little Atlas now carries these, too. And they seem to be around at least through Wednesday at both locations.

Update, November 12, 2007: Vinnie's Pizza now carries these, too!!

The Vegan Treats retail store just unveiled a chocolate-glazed chocolate doughnut. It's my new favorite. Cross your fingers that Atlas will benefit this Tuesday!

I recently launched a campaign to tell people that Vegan Treats are actually freshly delivered on Thursdays since I'm tired of seeing how busy Atlas can get on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Well, Andrea, you are totally not helping.

We Brooklynites should just get together and place wholesale donut orders with Danielle on Tuesdays. Like a donut co-op.

If we're starting a vegan donut co-op, I say we go for Mighty O Donuts in Seattle. (We could have them shipped overnight!) Don't get me wrong, I love Danielle's stuff - I blame the extra 10 to 15 pounds and couple inches around my waist on my body on her. But Danielle's donuts really just taste like donut-shaped versions of her cakes.

I know, that's starting to sound easier. Okay, donut party when I get back from Portland.

I had the donuts today and I think that saying they taste like the cakes is a disservice! They tasted like donuts. Someone got all the jellies before we got there...I wonder who? My favorite was the glazed.

They totally tasted like doughnuts! Delicious doughnuts! My favorite was the coconut cream, but then I'm a sucker when it comes to coconut. Seriously, I'll do anything for a vegan dessert that involves coconut. Anything. I'm serious. If you only knew the terrible things I've done for coconut...

Hey, we have a review with pictures if anyone is interested. -Jim

Had the boston cream on Tuesday. O.M.G. The cream looks very, very *slightly* different, but I feel pretty confident I could give this to any non-vegan and they'd never knw the difference. 2 friends (one vegan, one vegetarian) agreed. Looking forward to trying to jellies.

So... is there transfat in those suckers? I guess not if they're for sale in NYC (?)
