Portland's Vegan Mall Opens. I Check Airplane Ticket Prices.

That vegan minimall we've all been waiting for is now very real and very awesome.

The new Herbivore store looks absolutely amazing and Food Fight! is serving up cheeze dogs. I don't think Sweet Pea Bakery or Scapegoat Tattoo are there yet, but I guess I'm not sure.

Congratulations to all involved! Please post comments with links to more pictures. There's really not enough drool on my keyboard yet.

Why is vegan stuff always fugly brown? I wouldn't wear/use a thing in that store.

The concept of an all-vegan building full of good food, however, is awesome. Thank god I'm vegan for the food and not the (*shudder/gag*) fashion.

Brown rocks. In 3 years all the squares will be wearing brown and us cool folks will have moved on to the next thing.

Hey FoodFight - got any sexy pics of your new self?

Perhaps your computer color is messed up or you are color blind? There is only one small stack of brown shirts that I see. Most of them are black. And having been in there, there isn't much brown at all.

homeboycidal maniarc did strike a nerve. why are we all so in denial about our brown clothes? i'm wearing several shades of brown as i write this. i would have walked out into the world today looking overly brown had homemania not made me realize what i was just about to do.

i tip my hat to the one person on the whole internet who dares to tell the truth. except that there really aren't very many brown clothes in those photos, and i can't actually think of any others out there. but still.

I've seen two vegan stores in my life: Otsu and now Herbivore. And they have one thing in common: they sell a bunch of fugly boring earth toned stuff that I would never use/wear. And being vegan, I would actually very much like to support vegan businesses, but I am not going to do that unless they SELL SOMETHING THAT I MIGHT ACTUALLY WANT. So, fine, you guys all revel in your fugly hipster earth tones, and I'll be over here NOT spending my money on a business that otherwise deserves it. Their loss.

I think we've all learned a lesson here - we need more black clothing!

PS Homicidal, there is ONE pile of brown and several piles of other colors. But what color are you in the market for, just out of curiosity?

i'm sitting here looking at the shelf in the picture. here are the shirt colors from right to left: pink, blue, green, baby blue, brown, cranberry red, black, black again, red.

then there are the jackets down a bit further: brown, black, black, red, black.

not a whole lot of brown there as it turns out. which kinda makes me think i need to do more brown...

I take umbrage with the statement that anything is the new black. I think that is the mindset that is leading to the severe black clothing famine of '07.

Sweet Pea & Scapegoat are now open.

I had a grab-n-go hot dog with nacho cheese sauce at Food Fight yesterday--it was great. And, Isa, I bought Veganomicon there. I don't think of myself as yuppy, but if shopping at Food Fight means I am, then I am. And proud.

I love Herbivore too -- great place to get patches to sew on your your thrifted items or books on veganism or zines or really cute purses.

Interesting that someone is going off about all the brown. I personally don't like brown but I've bought several things from Herbivore and not one had to be brown. black with lettering, more black with lettering, another black, and a gray. I'm going back this week for the black jogger.
Has Homic Idol ever even been in the store?
I love all the stores there... even took a coworker there last week. Awesomeness...

It looks like a new restaurant is finally taking the place of the old Veganopolis on SW 4th downtown. Any PDXers know if it's going to be vegan-friendly?

I hadn't heard about the new restaurant on 4th. I really miss Veganopolis. It was the best. Has anybody in PDX been to the new Los Gorditos II on SE 8th and Ankeny? It's deelish!
