For the first time in the U.S., a dog has been granted a restraining order. After a fight with Derek Lopez, Fredrick Fontanez reportedly took out his frustrations on Lopez’s five-year-old dog, Bebe, and brutally beat him.
Governor Pataki signed the new law protecting companion animals from domestic abuse just over a month ago. Several states already have such laws, and others are considering expanding their companion animal protections.
