Foie Gras Sign Goes Bye-bye!

According to Marc Paoloni, CIO of Fairway Markets, the sign declaring Fairway “Foie Gras Central” is no more:

“The sign has been removed. It was not authorized by management and does not reflect the views of Fairway Market. The employees involved have been reprimanded. We apologize if you were offended, Thank you for your continued patronage.”

Thanks so much to Jenny Brown of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary for letting us know about this. And thanks to everyone who wrote the company and showed up to protest this weekend! It’s nice to know that legal direct action produces results for the good guys every once in a while.

In that spirit, please keep responding to articles and commenting on blogs when the foie gras ban is mentioned. Here’s a flyer (in PDF format) you can print and hand out at the dog run, in your neighborhood pet store, etc. And for those who want to join a committee, the next meeting of the New York City Say No to Foie Gras Campaign is Thursday, Jan. 18, at 7pm at Jivamukti Yoga Center Cafe (841 Broadway, 2nd floor, bet. 13th & 14th streets). Hope to see you there!
