The PETA “Vegetarians Make Better Lovers” Make-Out Tour made a stop this afternoon at Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C.—this time with a gay twist. The demo featured two cute and scantily clad cuddling sailor dudes.

One-half of the gay couple, Mike Brazell, who was in the Navy for 10 years, told the press he chose to promote vegetarianism with PETA because of the meat industry’s silence on animal rights’ issues.

“The meat industry has similar policies to the ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ policy,” Brazell said, comparing his forced silence in the military with the suffering of animals in substandard farming conditions.

Hopefully passersby walked away with some heightened awareness of the intersection of gay civil rights and farmed animal rights.
