What do Elvira, Sara Gilbert, and Bill Maher all have in common? They’re all supporters of the Great American Meatout. Meatout is a vegetarian holiday which was launched by FARM in 1985 and, according to the website, it’s the world’s largest and oldest annual grassroots diet campaign.

On and around March 20th (the official holiday), thousands of supporters will celebrate by encouraging others to “kick their meat habits.” Activities include handing out Veg Starter Kits, hosting public veggie meals, organizing lectures, cooking veggie snacks for coworkers, and doing whatever else will spread the good veg word.
