There’s one week left to register at a discounted rate for Animal Rights 2006 in Washington, DC. Help one of the oldest and largest AR conferences celebrate 25 years of advocating for animals while you peruse exhibits, watch videos, attend workshops, and hear speakers like Adam Durand of Compassionate Consumers, Bruce Friedrich of PETA, Karen Dawn of DawnWatch, Dr. Milton Mills of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and Dan Piraro, Bizarro cartoonist and board member of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. Sunday night’s festivities include an awards ceremony in which musician and longtime vegan Moby will be feted for his celebrity activism. The four-day extravaganza wraps up with a quickie course in lobbying, then a trip to Capitol Hill to put your new skills to work.
If you can’t get away in August, sign up for Taking Action for Animals 2006, taking place September 2-5, also in DC. Like AR, TAFA will be replete with exhibits, workshops, and lectures and will end with lobbying on the Hill. Speakers include Mutts cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, Zoe Weil of International Institute for Humane Education, Dr. Michael Greger of The Humane Society of the United States, Gene Bauston of Farm Sanctuary, and Animal Liberation author Peter Singer.
