Scrumptious (hey, I haven’t tried it, but it probably is!), creatively flavored vegan popcorn from Mama Earth Rocks will make its first appearance at Red Hook Mercado this Saturday and Sunday, 5/29 and 5/30. Popcorns on the menu: cinnamon apple, savory garlic and onion, organic sweet and savory mix, caramel pecan, and vegan butter pecan. (Note: while I’m pretty sure everything from Mama Earth is vegan, only the butter pecan popcorn is labeled as such on the website. As of this writing, Mama Earth hadn’t responded to my inquiry about the veganocity of the goods, but when she does, I will update!) Brooke Guthrie, the chef lady behind the label, said via Twitter that she’s giving a free gift with every $10 purchase. I hope it’s more popcorn!
Will Mama Earth have a popcorn wagon, like this one at Snowmass Mountain in 1974? Oh, please say yes. Image via the U.S. National Archives on Flickr.
Red Hook Mercado is open 12 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays May 15 to October 31, and features local music, crafts, and food from the Red Hook Ball Fields vendors and other open-air chefs. Find it at 410 Van Brunt St. in Red Hook. For info straight from an organizer’s mouth, check out the New York Times “Diner’s Journal” post on the opening of the market.
