Our favorite cartoonist-activist, Dan Piraro, brought something important to the attention of The Hamilton Spectator yesterday: that in its coverage of the Badwater Ultramarathon, it omitted the fact that two-time winner Scott Jurek is a vegan.

Just the other day I was talking about Jurek’s win with a friend, who expressed dismay that when vegan parents are brought up on child-endangerment charges, it’s all over the news, but you’d be hard-pressed to find mention of Jurek’s veganism in the coverage of his recent win.

Lesson learned: Keep writing those letters to the editor.
