Here’s A Handy Roundup of All The Frozen Thanksgiving Turkey Alternatives With Their Official Corporate Descriptions!

Remember a time before Tofurky? (No, there is no ‘e’ in Tofurky.) Meatless technologies continue to advance, and this year, there are no fewer than nine ten options for your Gobbling Pleasure! If you don’t want to make something from scratch here are your frozen turkey facsimile options:

TOFURKY FEAST

“Our feast contains:

  • One Tofurky Roast (made with organic non-genetically engineered soybeans) – now 20% larger
  • Savory Giblet Gravy
  • Wild Rice, Whole Wheat Bread Crumb Stuffing
  • Tofurky Jurky Wishstix
  • New ! Organic Chocolate Cake from Amy’s Kitchen
  • Happy Tofurky Day card & coupons

Each feast is 100% vegan, cooks in about an hour, serves six and tastes fabulous!”

TOFURKY ROAST

“The Tofurky Roast is a pre-cooked vegetarian feast designed to be the delicious centerpiece of your holiday or everyday meal. Made from a revolutionary tofu-wheat protein blend, our famous Tofurky Roast is known for its incredible, turkey-like texture and flavor. Stuffed with wild rice and whole wheat bread crumb stuffing, this roast carves and cuts just like turkey but without the bones.
Since it was first marketed in 1995, Tofurky Roasts have been America’s original and best selling alternative to turkey.”

MATCH MEATS STUFFED HOLIDAY ROAST

The only trace of Match Meat’s Stuffed Holiday Roast on their website is in the form of a recipe, where, apparently Chicken + Sausage = Turkey. I guess that’s Match Math! If you don’t want to DIY it, it’s available for ready-made-purchase at Vegan Essentials,
“Enjoy this limited-edition (and difficult to find) roast by Match this holiday season! This tender roast is stuffed with delicious sausage-flavored “meat” and traditional stuffing, making it the perfect main course for the holidays ahead.”

GARDEIN HOLIDAY ROAST

“serves 8 and includes delicious vegan gravy”

FIELD ROAST HAZELNUT CRANBERRY ROAST EN CROUTE

“Made exclusively for the holidays – a rich, hazelnut-infused vegetarian grain meat stuffed with Field Roast sausages, crystallized ginger, cranberries and apples – wrapped in a savory puff pastry. From family feasts to a festive dinner for two, our Hazelnut Cranberry Roast En Croute is the centerpiece to any holiday meal.”

FIELD ROAST CELEBRATION ROAST

“Family feasts, holiday gatherings or a simple dinner for two; our Celebration Roast is the ultimate in vegetarian sophistication. We start with a rich and savory sausage-style stuffing made from Field Roast grain meat, fresh cut butternut squash, mushrooms and granny smith apples seasoned with a blend of rosemary, thyme and sage. We then surround the stuffing with our most luxuriant grain meat seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice. As a centerpiece, appetizer or sliced in a sandwich, our Celebration Roast is perfect for any occasion. Available in both 1 lb & 2 lbs.”

VEGETARIAN PLUS WHOLE TURKEY

“A pleasing presentation is a big part of holiday celebration, and our “bird” has a beautiful table appearance, as well as a delicately subtle flavor and texture that will have everyone asking for seconds.”

TRADER JOE’S TURKEY-LESS STUFFED ROAST WITH GRAVY

“We’ve long supported an inclusive Thanksgiving dining experience, and as such, have carried a vegan alternative to the turkey roast for quite some time. And that’s just what it has been: the nice “alternative.” This year, we wanted to make it the envy of the table, or at the very least, something that turkey-eaters would be tempted to try. We partnered with the creators of our popular Chickenless Crispy Tenders and Chickenless Mandarin Orange Morsels to create this appealing Turkey-less Stuffed Roast with Gravy. It’s really good. Made with seasoned soy protein and organic ancient grain flour, the texture and flavor are remarkable, and the stuffing and gravy showcase it brilliantly. It’s definitely tempting, especially at $9.99 for a 2.5 pound vegan roast.”

FIVE STAR FOODIES VEGETARIAN HARVEST ROAST

“The Vegetarian Harvest Roast is a delicious, Thanksgiving turkey inspired, delight. Perfect for the holidays or whenever one is in the mood for something tasty, warm, and filling.”

Disclaimer, lest your Thanksgiving be anything less than delicious: The Washington Post said otherwise last year!

Update: Thanks to
@sellfinflickted’s recommendation we’re adding
FRESH TOFU COMPANY’S ORGANIC TOFU TURKEY

“Since 1992, Fresh Tofu Inc. has been supplying the natural foods marketplace with Tofu Turkeys. SuperVegan, help me out: The Gardein Holiday Roast says “Keep Frozen” on the box. The Trader Joe’s Turkey-less Stuffed Roast, which your description reveals Gardein to be the all-powerful CREATOR of, says “Keep Refrigerated.” So I put my Trader Joe’s Roast in the fridge and my Gardein Roast in the freezer. Mistake?

Also, do you want to know what I want for Veganakah this year? Clickable SuperVegan photos that get bigger when you click em like every other website on the Earth! I’ve been a good vegan all year so please make it so!

I just discovered that Tofurky has a third option, middle ground between the two listed above: “Tofurky Roast & Gravy”.

Okay, I called Gardein today and got the answer to my question. Yes they make the Trader Joe’s Turkey-less roast HOWEVER Trader Joe’s wanted to be able to sell it as a refrigerated item not a frozen item, therefore although the products are otherwise identical the one for Trader Joe’s has been pasteurized so that it can last in the refrigerator without being frozen.

FYI, while I had them on the phone I asked about the differenceces in the other products they make for Trader Joe’s and was told that their Chick’n Tenders are pretty much identical to the ones Trader Joe’s is selling but that the Mandarin Orange Chick’n ones have a different coating and different flavoring in the sauce. The End.

Cathy, it depends on your personal preferences! Check out the link towards the bottom of the article to the Washington Post’s review last year– it might help you pick which you’d like best.

I eat an inordinate amount of Tofu Turkey slices. It is a staple protein in my diet. I was trying to find the company’s web site, as I wanted to send them an email. I wanted to make sure the Soya they used was not Genetically modified (GMO). The link below had me worried: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/04/09/argentina-gmo-crops.aspx?e_cid=20130409_DNL_art_1&utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20130409

Can you tell me if, Tofu Turkey uses good quality (Non-GMO) or Organically grown Soya only?
