I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA premieres tonight at 8pm on HBO. (You can see Newkirk talking about it here.) If you miss it, you can get it via HBO On Demand, or if you’re in Canada, see it on November 21 at 9pm on The Movie Network. It’ll also be out January 8 on DVD.
The film is far more sympathetic than I’d expected, though it’s definitely a character study and doesn’t focus much on the reasons behind the movement or on the importance of veganism. If you watched, let us know what you thought in the comments.
And speaking of the mainstream media actually giving us wacko vegans a fair shake, the New York Times wrote a very nice, non-condescending article about vegan cuisine in San Francisco. I’m sure the next bit of snooty rudeness will come along shortly, but in the meantime, you’d think veganism might actually be worth taking seriously!
