Gluten-free treats at Babycakes
It seems like everyone’s having a bake sale these days. And while they’re all for good causes and a lot of them even offer vegan goods, I find myself having a hard time getting into the spirit of things. After all, what’s a gluten-free vegan to do?
If you have the time (and don’t need that brownie fix NOW!), you can make your own with a mix from the Cravings Place.
But if you’re lucky enough to live in New York City, you can just head down to Babycakes and eat yourself into a stupor. You can even stock up for a rainy day—I froze an assortment of delicious muffins, brownies and cakes and brought them to my brother’s house for Easter a few days later, and from the speed with which my non-gluten-avoiding, nonvegan family was scarfing them down, I’d say they held up pretty well.
If you’re a work snacker (you know who you are) and need something to keep in your desk drawer, I highly recommend Nana’s No’s—the Chocolate, Ginger and Lemon cookies are out of this world (there’s also a Chocolate Crunch Cookie that I haven’t gotten around to trying yet). You can find them at any health-food market, like the Westerly (support the little guy!) and Whole Foods.
