Slate’s recent feature, ‘Why is meat the most shoplifted item in America?’, brought to mind a scene from the film Light of Day, in which Cleveland sibling rockers Patti and Joe, played by real-life vegetarians Joan Jett and Michael J. Fox, furtively stuff steaks down the jacket of Patti’s small son. “I’m cold, Mommy.”

It also begged the question, what gets shoplifted the most at a vegan grocery? According to Emiko at Portland’s Food Fight!:

We’ve never caught anyone shoplifting luckily. I think we like to ignorantly believe no one would steal from a small, independent business. But we seem to think our spices get stolen because we never remember selling any, yet they always seem to be missing here and there.
