Ducks who were rescued from foie gras farm and rehabilitated
The Pataki administration’s Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC) has granted the infamous animal abusers at Hudson Valley Foie Gras $420,000 to help expand their operation. The factory farm plans to use the funding to improve the facilities, hire an additional 10 employees within the next three years, and increase the number of ducks force-fed and slaughtered by 10 percent to roughly 325,000.
Senator Liz Krueger, who is an outspoken animal advocate and endorsed by League of Humane Voters of New York City (LOHV-NYC), commented, “The paltry economic benefits the local community may reap fails to justify the way these animals are handled, and fails to show New York taxpayers their dollars will be used in a responsible way. As the production and sale of foie gras is being banned by state legislatures and city councils across the country, now is not the time for the State of New York to spend taxpayer dollars bucking this trend.”
LOHV-NYC asks that you please call Governor Pataki immediately and urge him to revoke this grant. Make sure to mention that you are a voter and that you know he is considering a run for President in 2008. His number is 518-474-8390.
