pattrice jones at Bluestockings this Friday (March 23)

Come hear pattrice jones read from her important new book, Aftershock: Confronting Trauma in a Violent World. A Guide for Activists and Their Allies (Lantern Books), this Friday at Bluestockings Feminist Bookstore.

Jones is a lifelong activist who speaks out against racism, sexism, speciesism, class exploitation, and environmental destruction. She’s also a psychotherapist who has worked with sexual and domestic violence survivors, a college professor, and co-founder of the Eastern Shore Chicken Sanctuary in Maryland. In Aftershock, jones draws from her experiences in these roles to help us recognize, acknowledge, and recover from the trauma this violent world deals us. The book was inspired by jones’ article “Fear of Feeling: Trauma and Recovery in the Animal Rights Movement.” (Satya, 2005).

The details: Friday, March 23rd at 7pm. Bluestockings, 172 Allen Street between Stanton and Rivington Streets, New York, NY. Free.

If you can’t make the reading, listen to pattrice jones’ interview on Animal Voices, or see her lecture this weekend at the United Poultry Concerns conference.
