Racism in the vegan community

I recently got an email from Breeze who is working on the Sistah Vegan anthology project. Apparently Herman’s posting of her call for essays on the Vegan Porn forum sparked a discussion thread rife with racism, elitism and general ignorance. As a result, Breeze has created a weblog to serve as a safe space for discussion among the vegan POC, LGBTQ, and Female identified community and their allies. If you’re a Black Female identified vegan I hope you’ll consider submitting an essay and supporting Breeze’s research in light of recent events which emphasize its importance.

I wish I could say this whole thing surprises me, but I can’t. Sadly, vegans are just as likely to be bigots as the rest of the society. Maybe vegan community sites need to start linking to Tim Wise’s essays.
