Though it took a few months for anyone to notice, the Santa Monica branch of Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Shack is required by their lease to offer a full selection of vegetarian and vegan menu options.

The restaurant is on the famous town-owned Santa Monica Pier, and the then-Mayor Mike Feinstein (vegan) along with City Councilman Kevin McKeown (vegetarian) put a clause in the lease. Says Feinstein: “This is public space we’re leasing, and it’s more important in those spaces to have restaurants that welcome all of the public.”
