Join civil rights attorney and animal welfare supporter Yetta Kurland this Wednesday for a night of performances to support Kurland’s campaign for City Council. Janeane Garofalo, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, Reverend Billy, and many others will perform at Touch night club (52nd between Broadway and Eighth Avenue) at 7 p.m. Purchase your ticket for the low, low price of $40 (or contribute more, if you can).
Kurland, who is vegan, has pledged to support humane education legislation and compassion toward other animals in her campaign in the 3rd district, comprising Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea, and the West Village. “I will make sure to represent my district with the highest level of compassion and good governance which will include a strong commitment to ensuring the humane treatment of animals,” she said on her campaign site. Kurland is running against Maria Passannante Derr and incumbent Christine Quinn, who opposed the foie gras ban in New York in 2007.
