Backstage: a whole lot of seitan.
Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner–I was sleeping off the hangover.
New York mag’s Chinatown Secret Kitchen bat mitzvah with Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Man Man was a qualified success. Our table received seven of the Jewish-Asian fusion courses out of eight (did anyone receive those mythical dumplings?): the food was mostly cold (not Isa’s fault!) and mostly still really delicious (definitely Isa’s fault). The crowd was mostly non-vegan (according to my thoroughly unscientific poll), though they did find out about the event via Brooklyn Vegan. Man Man took the stage at around 11 and rocked a short set. The event was vehemently and weirdly sponsored by POM, who are apparently on the hardcore defensive after that whole animal testing scandal.
Much congratulations are due to Isa and Terry and their team of magic elves for pulling off this amazing logistical feat. I look forward to dining at the Post Punk Kitchen Cafe in the near future. That’s not an April Fool’s, I’m totally serious.
Watch the video for some quality food porn (including a shot of Terry covered in tasty frosting), some oddly sincere vegan confessionals and a quick fly-by of the SuperVegan team in the opening crowd pan. We planned to blog about this pre-party with some tickets to give away! But Dude Publicist flaked out.
