The SF Chronicle Bernes The Veggies

Amanda Berne doesn't think there are many veg restaurants--clearly she hasn't seen our guide.

Amanda Berne doesn’t think there are many veg restaurants–clearly she hasn’t seen our guide.

The San Francisco Chronicle recently added a vegetarian food column by Amanda Berne. Berne is a meat-eater, but often finds the veg stuff “most satisfying”–and even, shockingly–”just as exciting and interesting” as the dead flesh. Berne retired her restaurant column at the Chronicle just five short months ago for an editorial position at Ten Speed Press, publishers of several top-notch vegan cookbooks. All of her recipes are vegetarian, but none are vegan–she goes heavy on the eggs, cheese and butter. I’m hopeful that someone just needs to introduce this woman to the complex beauty and buttery taste of trans fats.

That Chronicle sure is hip to what the kids are doing. Berne hasn’t even mentioned yoga or acupuncture yet. I give it five weeks tops.

The paper has received several letters over the last week commending them for adding Berne. Let them know what you think by e-mailing food@sfchronicle.com.
