You know, it occurred to me shortly after your April Fools prank that that’s how urban legends get started. “Hey, did you ever hear about the lady who had a vegan cooking show, wrote some real popular vegan cookbooks and all the vegans worshipped her because she was the punk rock vegan and it turned out she wasn’t even vegan?”

And I’m sorry, but what’s wrong with the way Alec Baldwin looks? I think he’s hot.

I’m with quietgrrrl on that one. Just looking through snopes I know I’ve seen a couple legends that were started when newspapers printed joke april fools articles and I know information has been passed to me months after april as full truth. Once something is posted it can never be fully taken back, there is no guarantee that the ‘oh its a joke’ postings will follow the same trails as the original (esp. as hearing that something is a joke is far less exciting/interesting).
+ most of these news jokes are fairly unoriginal and not that funny, defeating the whole point.

Sorry for the little rant. I’ve just been annoyed that so many sites and organizations wasted time with this stuff.
