Vegan Drinks XLV: It’s the First Vegan Drinks of 2012 and Your Opportunity to Make Bank for the Civil Liberties Defense Center on Thursday, January 26

Vegan Drinks logo

Join us THIS Thursday, January 26, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm for Vegan Drinks NYC!

Real live DJ alert! DJ Grand Format will be playing some punk rock, some shoegaze and some hip hop for your ears.

Drink specials will include $1 off draft beers and well drinks all night!

The kitchen will be turning out good vegan snacks like a vegan burger deluxe platter (with or without vegan cheese + fries and coleslaw), crispy vegan chikkin’ tenders, Pittsburgh-style coleslaw, fries and good ol’ chips & salsa.

Civil Liberties Defense Center logoThis month we’re supporting the not-for-profit Civil Liberties Defense Center (CLDC) and its ongoing work to protect the rights of animal rights activists throughout the U.S. The CLDC’s mission focuses on defending and upholding civil liberties through education, outreach, litigation, and legal support and assistance. The CLDC strives to preserve the strength and vitality of the Bill of Rights and the U.S. and state constitutions, as well as to protect freedom of expression. The CLDC has provided education to activists on their rights to protest, as well as post-9/11 free-speech-chilling legislation like the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA). The CLDC has been instrumental in supporting activists targeted by the Green Scare through its public education campaigns and defense of activists. In addition, the CLDC is working with organizations like the Center for Constitutional Rights to dismantle Communications Management Units (CMUs), experimental federal prison units designed to isolate certain prisoners (e.g., Muslim men, animal rights and environmental activists) from the rest of the prison population and the outside world because they have been labeled “terrorists” by the government. Support the CLDC!

Have you read the new and improved Vegan Drinks FAQ? Please read it, even if you’re a regular at our event. (Really, please read it. All of it.)

We’ll turn down the music around 8:30pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature.

If you’re not already following our every move, connect with Vegan Drinks on Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@vegandrinks), and join our e-mail list.

Vegan Drinks NYC is usually held the last Thursday of the month from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at Angels & Kings, 500 East 11th Street (btw Ave A & Ave B), New York, NY 10009.
