Vegan Drinks XXIII: Cupcakes and Cocktails and Some Other Stuff

Vegan Drinks XXIII

Our sexy vegan friend Matt, Terri’s cupcakes, and the international sign for Vegan Gang. (Images courtesy of Matthew Mitchell and his cell phone.)

Good work, NYC vegans! You packed Vegan Drinks at Angels & Kings Bar on Thursday, March 25th. You told the best stories. You looked good in those new jeans. And you consumed A LOT of cupcakes. (Thanks, Terri Café, for introducing us to your amazing vegan buttercream frosting!)

A crew of rad vegans lined up to make “Shout Outs”! Deborah (that’s me!) invited everyone to Brooklyn Law School on April 7th at 1pm to attend “The Pit Bull Placebo“, a talk about breed-specific legislation with Daniel Cleary of the National Canine Research Council. Hector, one of the dogs rescued from Michael Vick’s home, will be in attendance. Please RSVP to bls.saldf@gmail.com. Sarah G. plugged the very yummy Rescue Chocolate, which donates 100 percent of its net profits to animal rescue groups across the United States. Andy represented The Sparrow Project and its Spring 2010 benefit t-shirts, which support a slew of organizations doing good work in the animal rights, environmental and social justice movements. Sarah H. reminded the crowd that the annual Anarchist Book Fair will be held on April 17th and 18th at the Judson Memorial Church. Tod and Drea talked up the current Sea Shepherd happenings, including the impending arrival of the Steve Irwin ship in NYC during the last week in April (details to be announced soon!). Matt of Mercy For Animals and David of Farm Sanctuary each reported on their respective organization’s national and local efforts as of late. Sophia and crew encouraged the crowd to join them in volunteering their time with the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and Denise announced her new venture, Doggy Guest House. Sarah and Mike of Terri Café instructed us to visit them at their Flatiron District location for more sweet (and savory) treats! Oh, and SuperVegan’s very sexy friend Matt graced us with his sexy presence and asked us to vote for his sexy arse in PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door contest. Let’s make sure that a real sexy VEGAN wins and not just some lazy vegetarian! Vote Matt!

Big thanks to Jesse the Bartender! And, DJ Lil Ray, we missed you!

champurrado, the Steve Irwin should arrive in NYC during the last week in April. Sea Shepherd will make an announcement once the dates are final. (And, yes, the public is expected to be able to tour the ship!)

SWEET about the Steve Irwin! Here’s a song I’d like to dedicate to Sea Shepherd (a mashup of the Whale Wars theme song and the Ghostbusters theme song). Everytime I hear it I imagine the Sea Shepherd badasses walking out onto the deck in Ghostbusters uniforms ready to kick some whale poaching ass.
