The Associated Press reports–and several newspapers parrot–on the new landscape of upscale veg eats a la Candle 79. These are the kinds of places that actually say they’re veg, and tend toward “fine dining” rather than the old guard of “grungy, obscure cafes” (ahem Kate’s). AP says “there are between 1,000 and 1,200 vegetarian restaurants in the U.S., almost double the number seven years ago”–and nearly 100 of those are in New York City. So get eating!
