Did you go load up on Vegan Treats at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn this past weekend? You should have!
- You know Kopi Luwak, that kind of coffee bean that has to pass through a civet’s digestive tract before it’s ready? (Yes, that’s a nice way to say “pooped”.) Well, it’s now popular enough to be intensively farmed. What was a once a wild-foraged oddity has become an industrial atrocity.
- We’re still pretty excited about the movies, but big news today was that many animals who “worked” on the The Hobbit died or suffered serious injuries due to neglect. (To keep things in perspective, remember this is nowhere near the bodycount caused by the meat and dairy eaten by the cast and crew of pretty much any movie.)
- “FDNY firefighter says he’s been ostracized – because he became a vegetarian“. The best part of this slightly confusing NYPost story is the URL slug “tofu_fu_bravest_diet_beef”. Maybe he can move to Austin.
- There’s some holiday involving eating this Thursday, and in case you missed ‘em, check out our Big Fat Guide To Los Angeles Vegan Thanksgiving and our Big Fat Guide to New York City Vegan Thanksgiving and our Handy Roundup of All The Frozen Thanksgiving Turkey Alternatives With Their Official Corporate Descriptions.
- Because you aren’t all lucky enough to live in NYC or LA, be thankful that Vegansaurus did a Thanksgiving Round-Up for the SF Bay Area.
- If you’re cooking, tis the season for the PostPunk Kitchen’s Voluptuous Pumpkin Pie and to raid their archive of other Thanksgiving recipes
- We’re also more than a little impressed by Dan Pashman’s Veggieducken: “yams inside leeks inside a banana squash, with vegetarian stuffing between each layer”. An outstanding vegetable-based (as opposed to protein-mass-based) Thanksgiving centerpiece dish!
- Mercy For Animals set up a fancy Pardon a Turkey website. This looks especialy fun for kids, new vegetarians, or people who just love filling out yet another form on the internet
- Go beyond pardoning! Adopt a Turkey!
- Exactly one week after Thanksgiving, it’s time for November Vegan Drinks NYC benefitting Friends of Animals and Heirloom Vegan Eatery serving up Southern-style breakfast-for-dinner.
- What’d we miss? Let us know in the comments or e-mail tips@supervegan.com
