How does a week long retreat in a beautiful camp location one hour outside of Boston sound? Where all the food is vegan, organic, and local (to the “greatest extent possible”). Where all the people care about community service, activism and social justice. Where those people and that food can come together, have fun, build life-long friendships and leave transformed. I wanna go!
Well too bad for us, Youth Empowered Action Camp is only for 12-17 year-olds!
But if you have a kid, they could go:
“Life-Changing Vegan Summer Camp for Youth Making a Difference!”
When: August 10-17, 2013
Where: Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, MA (one hour from Boston)
www.yeacamp.org for more information or to register
“This camp has truly changed my life. You have inspired me to do so much with my life and to make the world a truly better place. You have inspired me to believe in myself and to not just say ‘I’m just a kid, what can I do?’ Because of you, I have been able to actually make a difference.” -Bianca, Age 15

on #[ Smiles ] Great! A vegan summer camp; unfortunately, they were never around in my childhood days.

on #Catskill Animal Sanctuary right in Saugerties, NY also has a great camp for kids ages 9-13 – Camp Kindness – - fully vegan, teaching compassion, animal rights and all the rescued critters are there to learn from! This will be year four of CK and we are psyched (full disclaimer: I am program director there!) Camp runs from July to August (six one-week sessions….www.casanctuary.org for info!) And for you adults, going upstate to visit CAS for a day or weekend is a bit like a vegan summer camp for grown ups!! The B & B is delightful and there are amazing vegan culinary classes you can take in the downstairs teaching kitchen; events like Shindig with music and food, etc – - it is not impossible to get there without a car – you would take the bus up to kingston, NY; then would have to do a taxi cab which won’t be totally cheap but equivalent to taking a cab to the NY airports.) A great “stay-cation” and for a weekend in the country with the animals, supporting an animal rescue and humane education org, a fun, affordable getaway.

on #Interesting post. A camp for vegans sounds like a great idea, especially if it involves cooking lessons. Thanks for posting.

on #Sounds great and I’d love to go to one for adults. Any suggestions? I might offer cooking lessons in exchange for a spot on the top bunk!
