While poking around the internet for something amusing to watch the other night I came across a video of Robert Newman’s stand up routine “History of Oil.”
Perhaps the first thing one notices about the production is that the whole show is powered by two bicycles at the front of the stage, emphasizing a need for alternative energy. Spliced within the stand up routine are various archived images of such figures as Tony Blair and Arch Duke Ferdinand, providing satrirical support for Newman’s comedy.
While the show in it’s entirety is both fascinating and amusing, the vegan icing on the cake is when Newman addresses the need for a more sustainable food source in the future not so oil reliant and points to a study done in Willits, California recommending a vegan diet.
Other studies have come to the same conclusion, such as this one by Gidon Eshel and Pamela Martin of the University of Chicago.
