Vegetarians on both sides of the law

Sacramento’s Main Jail continues to refuse vegan meals to imprisoned eco-activist, Eric Taylor McDavid. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department considers veganism to be a “lifestyle choice.” McDavid, who has been on a (presumably diet-related) hunger strike since March 8, considers it equivalent to religious belief. He is now suing the jail.

Meanwhile on the flip side of the world, in Madurai, India, police shut down a AIADMK Party function for trespassing into a city temple and attempting to organize a non-vegetarian feast. “Police and officials said this was in violation of both the model code of conduct and the temple customs, which prohibited anyone from bringing non-vegetarian items inside the premises.”
