  • Best pizza in NYC with Daya VEGAN cheese, non-dairy pesto, tofu toppings, and tons of veggies options. The pie crusts are fantastic in wheat, spelt, and more, and the variety of deserts is very limited (some days they only have one type) but they are from Vegan Treats!

  • DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM CAFE VIVA! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The owner is a liar and a crook! I had ordered from their online menu a couple of times and stopped into the store on Friday Feb. 11th to order what I had ordered online by delivery before. The lady at the counter gave me a printed menu that seemed different and I immediately questioned it and asked about the online menu. She (owner) told me that this was the new menu and she did not know anything about the online menu (which was a complete lie, but I did not know that at the time) . I ordered a pie off the menu in the store and took my pie home to find out, after calling the owner (person that helped me i or did not really help me in the store) that the pie I wanted was available. This pie had more ingredients for almost ten dollars less than what I paid in the store. The owner completely lied to me and manipulated me to spend more than I had to. I argued on the phone about this with her and asked her why she did not tell me that when I was in the store. She was just nasty and argumentative!! Very bad customer service! I would not trust these people! Run away! Far Away! they are really fakes, phony, and frauds in my opinion.

  • I am vegan and like the Pizza here. They used to have a great slice called the "Marinara" but they have changed the recipe and taken the oil out of the pizza dough. They have a new vegan cheese on a slice called "The Nomaggio" (that's right, vegan, sans casien). I am alittle concerned because for the past two days they have been closed. (No signs/notices) I wonder if it is for renovation or maybe a citation from DOH. I hope they reopen soon

  • Since becoming vegan, my husband and I have missed pizza. We were in the neighborhood so we headed to Viva and got some slices to go. There were several (over 4) different vegan slices to choose from with various crusts: regular, whole wheat and spelt.

We had The Mother Earth: whole wheat crust with a spicy tomato sauce, broccoli, carmelized onions and soy meat. It was delicous. Even better was the Zen slice: green tea herbed miso-tofu, green tea basil pesto, shitake and maitake mushrooms, carmelized onions, sundried tomato and roasted garlic on a green tea herbed spelt crust (The Super Antioxidant Pizza). We got that slice as an experiment to see what it would be like, not expecting to love it so much.

Service was fast and friendly. Prices are a bit expensive (about $5-7 per slice but the slices are huge with tons of toppings). The menu is large and they are willing to veganize their dishes.

The menu clearly states that they soy cheese contains casein. It would be great if they would use vegan cheese but they are not trying to pass soy cheese off as vegan and honestly, the slices we had didn't need cheese. The flavors were incredible.

  • Actually - they have Teese now for pizza. They coat it thick, so it's got a bit of a plastic-y feel, but it's still tasty. I just passed by yesterday and saw that they also have Temptation ice cream, and a new vegan stuffed artichoke dish on the menu.

  • So, I know I've reviewed Viva before, but I just wanted to offer a word of warning: The soy cheese is not vegan. It has casein in it. Sad, but true. Stick to the Zen slice. I'm a fan. And dessert, duh.

  • Haven't eaten here in a long time, but the time I tried it I liked it. The regular cheese is better than average, the corn pizza was a bit odd, and some sort of veggie-topped slice was delicious. Tasted very fresh and wholesome, and a lot of the different choices seemed pretty interesting. If you eat in, it's a crowded pizza joint.

  • I can't eat here enough. They have lots of vegan pastas, soup, and a good amount of vegan pizza options (make your own, or they always have at least two vegan pizzas ready).

The restaurant is tiny and always crowded. You sometimes can't get a seat and when the door opens in winter it's super cold! But so what. The food is hot and delicious and the desserts (vegan treats) are out of this world.

The bread is also quite yummy (comes with the salad or soup).

Prices are reasonable, too. Counter service.

  • I'm a lactard vegetarian, not a real vegan, so this place is a dream for me. The soy cheese is delicious and melty - I didn't even have the usual problem of it sticking to the roof of my mouth, though my friend said she did. The atmosphere is standard pizza parlor. And the pizza's pretty delicious. I think they cook very low-salt here, but they have a salt shaker along with the red pepper and garlic powder. (Also, I went with non-vegan friends, and they had some soy cheese and some dairy, and very much liked it.) The vegan carrot cake I had was also wonderful, if a little oily. I miss pizza very much in my cheeseless life, and this was delicious.

  • Good pizza (I like being able to order pizza just like everyone else sometimes!). The Zen slice is good. Best of all, though: They have Vegan Treats cake slices for dessert! All of their desserts are vegan! Vegan pizza and cake in one place? I'm in heaven!
