  • Not a review, but a question. Is it really vegan here? I remember going here a long time ago (like almost ten years ago!) asking if they had anything that was vegan. They said that unfortunately they put parmesan cheese in all their tomato sauces. The only thing they had that was vegan was a veggie sandwich without the cheese. Anyway, it's great if they really did change their sauce after all this time, but bad if the hadn't.

  • I went to the Ave. A Two Boots location today, and couldn't remember which pizzas I'd read recommended here. The menu did not help, not marking which pizzas are vegan (since many places don't list cheese among the toppings I didn't want to guess based on the pizza descriptions). The man behind the counter - who wasn't friendly or helpful (i.e. general pizzeria service) - told me there were no vegan pizzas. They did have Mrs. Peel and Earth Mother out to sell though so I'm not sure if they've changed or if he just didn't understand what I meant by "vegan." So, just be sure to note the vegan pizza names when you go.

  • Two Boots has great pizza and better-than-average vegan options. I like that I'm able to go into any of their locations and grab a slice of their Mrs. Peel (garden vegetables on a round sicilian garnished with bread crumbs), the Earth Mother (five from the garden), or The Red (red pie, spicy sauce).

That said, I wish they'd put some casein-free soy cheese on one or two pies - or even just on special-order whole pies. Sure, I can see it leading to confusion and requiring special training and re-training of workers at Two Boots. But, damn! "Follow Your Heart" mozzarella would be so great on pizza, and I'd love to have some omnivores find out - maybe by accident - that it's not too bad a cheese in its own right.

I've been going to the original location for years and years, and have found the others to be consistently great; it's really the only pizzeria out there where I can just "grab a slice" - one of the simple pleasures in life it's easy to take for granted.

They also have "Fizzy Lizzy," a natural soft drink made with fruit juice, in addition to your usual Coke-Sprite-Diet Coke. Accessible, with restrooms (for customers only).

At the original location, there's also the great Pioneer Theatre next door, and naturally you can bring your slice over.
