  • Great food, even better than the first time!

After a long day of walking with the puppy my wife and I stopped in on a Saturday evening to grab dinner. The selection was good, including several kinds of mock chicken, lo mein, bulghar, mixed vegetables, and a curried stew; all had great seasoning that tasted really good warmed up at home! The staff were friendly and helpful just like last time, though the music made it a little hard to hear them! :)

While the vegetable patties were good, the black-eyed pea fritters were amazing, hot inside and crusty outside. We felt like we got a real treat on a day we really didn't want to have to cook!

  • Living vegan in the Bronx is tough. There are only 2 vegan take-out restaurants, H.I.M. and Vegan's Delight and they are both in the same neighborhood which is far from my section of the Bronx. But they are both worth the trip. Like bilmas wrote below, I'd ride from Hartsdale too (I go there every week and there are no vegan options there).

After going to Vegan's Delight several times, we went to H.I.M. to try it out and also because it is open later and everyday. The people are very nice. They explained what everything was (there is no menu and no signs) and didn't seem frustrated when my husband had to run across the street to find an ATM (they don't take cards; bring cash). While waiting, I engaged in a friendly conversation with another customer about all the juices they offer and all the maladies they are intended for. I must try some of those.

The food was very good. I had curried "chicken," pepper "steak," greens and red beans and rice. My husband had the lasagna and mixed veggies. We also tried the soy patties. I can't wait to go back and try the black-eyed pea dumplings.

Prices are a bit higher than at Vegan's Delight but well worth it. We left with smiles and our server wished us a "blessed day." What could be nicer than that? We'll definitely go back again and again.

  • hands down my favourite vegan restaurant! everybody here is always friendly and even though their selection isn't as big as uptown juice bars, that makes for rotations in the menu. great destination for a bike ride (i live in hartsdale)
