  • My favorite veggie spot, RIP. Will be re-opening with some veggie options, but a quick glance at the menu posted on the door doesn't look promising.

  • Had to add a few stars to my last review: the host and waitstaff were infinitely welcoming and the interior has been spruced up so that the service and atmosphere match the quality of the food.

    Love the croquette entree!

  • I don't get the big deal about this place. The food is way over priced and not very good (I've had the beef and asparagus and more recently the plate with chicken and mashed potatoes) - it all tastes like frozen reheated. The best part are the drinks and outdoor seating - otherwise I would def. skip it.

  • Every single thing I've tried has been incredible & the prices are extremely reasonable. There's a reason there is a line out the door during peak hours. Vegan Treats cakes are a plus!

  • Holy God, this place has the worst food I've ever paid for! I went with some friends for Thanksgiving, and we were all hungry and excited for a big meal. Everything about it was disgusting. The cider, the champagne, the awful pumpkin soup, stuffing that had the texture of an unused sponge, burned root vegetables (which were also cold), and awful fake meat . I have been vegetarian half my life and have never had a bad fake turkey. Also, I NEVER return food, but I couldn't eat it. The very sweet waitress took my meal back and I ordered a chicken sandwich with cheddar. The "cheddar" was a slice of american cheese that cost an extra buck. Even the sandwich was terrible. It was basically a chick patty on a cheap white bun with a mcdonalds-quality slice of tomato. Just $11! The place was cozy, and the company was great, but we all agreed it was the worst food we'd ever had. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

  • Oh man... See the thing is, I love the food, and I love sitting outside on a nice summer day, but the service is TERRIBLE! On two trips out here I have been entirely ignored for a half an hour while hoping to get a check. luckily, I was not in a rush. I don't think the waiter said more then five words to us (party of two) the entire meal. Very disappointing since their space is much bigger/nicer then Red Bamboo in Manhattan. I think I'd rather deal with the long wait (in Manhattan) then be ignored (in Brooklyn)...

  • Great atmosphere. Weather permitting sit outside at street level or better yet on the patio upstairs. Food is okay. However, if you like meat analogs (especially fake chicken), this is the place for you. Staff is very aware of what's vegan and what isn't so minimal risk of slip-ups. They need to filter the water they make their ice with. Makes any iced drink taste funky (and not in a good way).

  • I went with my friend on a slow Saturday afternoon. The food (BBQ buffalo wings and Soul Chicken sandwich) was delicious; freshly made fries, good texture of the sandwich, and excellent tangy sauce on the wings. It was enough for both lunch and dinner for me.

However, the appetizer came out at the same time as our food did, and the coffee I ordered as a drink didn't come until after the food (?!) So....that could use some work. But I'll go again if I can!

  • I like this one better then Red Bamboo in the city. It feels cleaner, has a better atmosphere, and has a bigger menu. For those of you who used to eat crappy things like the spicy fries from Denny's, Red Bamboo has some that are comparable and you can dip them in vegan ranch. Makes me feel like I'm in Ohio.

  • My husband and I are from Canada and we were visiting my brother that lives in Brooklyn. My husband, brother and I all love meat but are not snobbish to the idea of eating at a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. My bro thought we would love the atmosphere that your restaurant provides. The food was GREAT!. One of the most tasty restaurants Ive visited...period.
Service was great too! However, music was funky at the beginning and then got a little to house for me but besides that everything was perfect, next time Im in NY I will be visiting again.

  • I just ate here for the very first time (although I've been to the Manhattan location).

I ate, on recommendations here, the bbq buffalo wings and the willy bo bo sandwich (with spicy fries). I can't tell you how good everything was: you'll just have to try it.

Yes, the prices were a bit steep, but the food is filling and delicious.

The wings were the same as the wings you'll find everywhere and the bleu "cheese" sauce is nice. As for the willy bo bo: wow. The bread is soft and delicious, slightly sweet. The veggie ham is thick and smokey and salty: very authentic tasting (so if you don't like mock meat, beware--it tastes like and feels like the real thing). There are pickles, dijon mustard, and vegan mayo: all combining to make a delicious sauce. Finally you can get dairy or vegan swiss. Get the vegan swiss! It's delicious.

I'd go back if I'm in Brooklyn, but if I'm in Manhattan I'll go to the closer location.

Do yourself a favor if you do go from Manhattan: take the B38 bus as soon as you get out of the subway. The walk is about 10 blocks otherwise, which isn't terrible but in the winter it isn't nice.

  • This places is terrible. They don't even know how to make decent french fries or pancakes (which any diner in the city can pull off, just not vegan). Seriously, how do you fuck up pancakes? Or french fries? They manage. They can't prepare vegetables either (raw or cooked), so avoid salads or any kind of sautéed veggie dish. Unless you like everything drowned in sugar and corn starch.

The last few times I went, someone always got food poisoning. The servers are friendly but not particularly attentive or competent. The space is nice, so going there for a drink is fine I guess. But everything is waaaay overpriced.

If you get dragged here anyway, the two decent things are the Willie Bobo sandwich and the Buffalo Barbecue Wings.

  • RB Brooklyn is superior to the (excellent) Manhattan location, and one of the best vegan resturants in NYC. Admittedly, there are caveats. The downstairs is a sports bar at night (drinks are OK but pricy), and the upstairs is lounge-y (did they ever put A/C in up there?). The menu is different (IMO better) than RB Manhattan; it's more Carribean/soul rather than Asian/soul. Sandwiches are good (I agree with previous reviews of the Willy Bobo especially), but also agree with it being pricier than I'd like. I've had good service, and the outdoor seating on DeKalb is lovely. I haven't had any bad food at Red Bamboo Brooklyn (compared to the hit-and-miss that plagues so many vegan places), but I especially recommend the appetizers, particularly the coconut shrimp and collard rolls. This one is worth a trip on the B38 for, definitely.

  • This used to be my favorite restaurant, but the food and service has really gone down hill. I still think the food is delicious, but they are definately cutting some corners these days. The service is usually bad or non-existant. I've had food spilled on me, charged for items we never ordered and the best was when there were two of us dining and my friend never got any of his food and had to re-order after I was already eating. The lunch/dinner is WAY better than the brunch. The brunch is so bad it's like your not even at the same place. I love the building, and that really saves this place, along with the full bar. Sitting upstairs or outside is preferrable, since it's super loud in the main dining area.

  • I used to really like this place but the prices have always been high, music too loud, and the service has gotten progressively worse. I recently got fries, poured on ketchup that they must have left sitting in the sun because it was RANK, ruining the fries. The waiter offered a replacement side of fries, but then charged me for them!

  • The food is about 10-15% overpriced, which for me is made up for in RB's being 10-15% closer to my home than most other comparable veggie establishments. The M-F, 12-4 lunch special is a notable exception: several entree choices for a good 15-20% less than normal price. The jerk chicken is a personal favorite. Now if only they'd stop playing Norah Jones...

  • I'd say my 3 entrees so far averaged out to a 4, and my dessert -- a mint chocolate chip shake -- was a five, so we're looking at a 4.5 for food, but let's call it a 4 for now, so they don't get too cocky over there, though mainly because 4.5 isn't an option at SuperVegan (new feature request!).

This is one of the nicer Brooklyn vegan-friendly venues to hang out with friends, with an effort put into music and decor, and the service both nights I went this past week was very good.

  • The sandwiches are out of this world, the staff is great, and the atmosphere is wonderful. The only dish I have been disappointed with here was the vegan waffle (one waffle, $10, not any better than one I could make myself very easily). The mango chicken and cubano sandwiches make me drool just thinking about them.
