- Home on 8th is one of the best restaurants I've been to in NYC in terms of consistently good food. It always looks nice, tastes flavorful, and isn't excessively greasy. (I've been there many times and I can only remember one dish I didn't like.) Besides the separate vegetarian menu, another great thing about the food they offer is that it isn't identical to every other Chinese restaurant menu--it has some less common classic dishes (the vegetarian mapo tofu is good) and some I've never seen at other places.
Besides the food, I also like the little cafe atmosphere (occasionally changing art, food display case in back), and the service is pretty good too.
Home on 8th does serve meat, and a friend of mine was once served food with chicken in it by accident, so that's something to keep in mind. But I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try, especially if you're dining with someone who, for whatever reason, wants meat options.

- I guess I always knew this place was an option, but I never took advantage of it. Midtown 8th Avenue is not a place I like to be. Surprisingly, I found Home on 8th to be worth the walk on the trashy wildside of NYC. The atmosphere is very charming considering how decidedly inexpensive this place is; clean, dimly lit by candles, tiny flower arrangement on the table, "art" on the walls= cute! I had two main dishes and two appetizers, both came out the kitchen quickly and were yummy. I can't wait to go back!

- Home on 8th is not the fanciest place to sit and eat, nor is the food that wonderful, but they do make a cheap, healthy entree. And they have huge portions!
