  • We've only been to Rice Avenue once, which is not a reliable sample size, but here goes... The service was good, but we both thought the food (pad thai and massaman curry) was average, and there was nothing much to differentiate the place from other Thai restaurants in the city. Also, I ordered vegan pad thai and ended up with egg in my meal, which is no be sure to specify. At least there are a bunch of vegan options, although only some are marked as vegan on the menu.

  • An update is in order. The current menu does indeed list several items as specifically vegan. But semantic problems still obtain. For one, there are already vegan items like the wonderful vegetable-tofu soup that are not so marked. And, a majority of other items throughout the menu can be easily adapted into vegan dishes with some simple requests ("no egg"), requests which the delightful wait staff there perfectly well understand and honor.

It is truly, truly wonderful food; on a scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 10 if the system would let me.

Really folks, "decent vegan options" is not the right phrase for an establishment of this ilk! It is, in effect, a self-contained vegan restaurant with a full menu of the most delicious Thai food I have ever had, contained within an unfortunate outer shell that appeals to a clientele who go higher up the food chain than we do! Sigh.

By the way, the Google map is off in that the restaurant is actually on the *north* side of Roosevelt Ave., and more to the center of the indicated block.

  • Rice Ave is a delicious Thai/veg alternative among the many Indian and Latin American options in Jackson Heights. Conveniently located a block from the 74th/Broadway/Roosevelt subway station, it's easy to get to from just about anywhere in the city.

I loved their red curry with mock duck and would go there more often if I didn't have my own awesome Thai option closer to home (Bonne Saison in Bayside).

  • Rice Ave and Pukk are my two favorite Thai places. Rice Ave recently added veg duck to the menu. Besides that, it's not especially vegan, but boy oh boy is the food good. Check out our review with pictures. -Jim
