Review by Adah on August 8, 2010:
- My omnivore neighbors love this place and since they delivery, and I was too lazy to cook, I gave it a try. Blockheads is a better quality Chipotle or Qdobas. They're menu has a lot of vegetable or bean based vegetarian options and they claim that they can make many vegetarian items vegan; they offer tofu based sour cream and a soy cheese. The food is mediocre--not really good, not really bad--and definitely overpriced for what you get, which is pretty simple, straightforward food. I asked for a burrito with vegan cheese and sour cream, and the very nice woman taking my order didn't understand my request, even though the menu states they have vegan options (When she didn't understand my request for vegan cheese, I asked for the non-dairy cheese, to which she replied "We have soy cheese, but no non-dairy cheese"). So I requested the veggie medley burrito with soy cheese, tofu sour cream, and guac. They gave me dairy sour cream, but otherwise got it right. I'm used to omni restaurants screwing up my orders, so no biggie, I just tossed the dairy sour cream. The portion sizes are huge and the soy cheese looks like cheese whiz. I don't know what they're using (shitty vegan here, I didn't think to ask), but it's very plastic-y. If I order again, I'll skip the soy cheese. My partner got the vegetarian chili burrito and described it as "not bad," but complained because it was a bean and rice burrito, with three bean chili poured on top--nary a green or vegetable in sight and a bit bean overload, even for a vegetarian.
Overall, it's ok, but I'm going to try other UES delivery places before trying again with Blockheads.
