  • I was super excited when I heard they re-opened Zen Palate in Union Sq. Now I don't have to feel so angry that TGI Friday's is now in its old location. My boyfriend and I went during their opening week, and even though the food was delish, I was dissappointed with the service. For my entree I chose something on their menu called "mushroom forest" and it was basically their version of lettuce wraps. When our food arrived they apparently forgot to serve the lettuce cups that were supposed to come with my dish. When I called the waiter back to ask, he seemed royally confused, but eventually he took my plate back and later returned with the lettuce cups. I will say that the food was awesome, however I think the zen tofu lettuce wraps at Tacu Tacu are better. My boyfriend got the sweet and sour sensation and that was also pretty tasty. After our plates were cleared, the waiter brought over the check even though we didn't ask for it. I had actually planned on ordering a dessert and was really pissed that they didn't even ask if we wanted anything else. I called the waiter back and told him we were not ready for the check yet, but after that I was so frustrated I didn't even feel like ordering dessert. When we did get the check, the waiter peered around the corner like every two seconds to see if we had finished up yet. I just hate it when wait staff breathe down your neck and that's how I felt the whole time we were there. Also, they used to specify which items on their menu contained dairy or casein but their new menus leave this out completely. On the plus side, the new location looks great and it is nicely decorated. I will probably go back after it's been open for a while because I did enjoy the food, but I think for now I'll stick with takeout ;)
